A January 2025 Gastroenterology article reports that the five most common GI symptoms in U.S. adults are straining, incomplete emptying, hard stools, urgency, and a sensation of blocked stool passage. These symptoms, affecting 23% to 30% of adults, are often linked to pelvic floor disorders and require targeted tests including balloon expulsion, anorectal manometry, and pelvic imaging for accurate diagnosis.
